Made in Mie, Japan - Nagatani-en's Iga-yaki donabes are true artisanal pieces made "From Earth to Donabe". Iga-yaki is made from special historic porous clay which naturally has high absorbency and heat retention. Iga's coarse clay pots have long had a reputation among professional cooks for being the best for cooking rice, because once they store heat, they do not cool down easily even after being removed from the heat.
It took three and a half years of trial production of more than 1,000 different clay and glaze mixtures, thickness and shape of the inner and outer lids, number and position of the holes in the lids, etc. to create the thick-walled, double-lidded masterpiece "Kamado-san".
